FLIGHT TO HERMITAGE
HEAVY GALE ENCOUNTERED,
By Teleeraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 21. ■■ The intended fli»ht bv Captain Dickson and Mr. T. D. Burnett, of "nii-lie, to the Hermifago was commenced this morning, but was not comnleled. Starting about 10.30 jn bright, calm weather, they struck a nor-west gate overhead, -but made way over Fox, Peak Range and over Lake Tekapo against the gale. The Alps and valleys were hidden by clouds and dust, and it was'useless'tn go further. The situation of the Hermitage and the lie of the'valleys could be nindo out, and Captain Dickson was satisfied that the Mackenzie Haste and' the hills between it and Fnirlte were good flying country. The gale, which had'been driving new-fallen snow like whisps of smoke on' the ton of the range bsfore the start, reached Fuirlie just Wore, the aviators landed, but a good landing was made nit hour after the start. Captain Dickson proposes leaving for Christchurch with two passengers at daylight in ■ the morning .
