SCHOONER WRECKED

The "Hernld's" I'iji correspondent 6tatw that the auxiliary four-masteil schooner Defender Is ashore, a total wreck, on Nulntsocea Keef, in the southern portion of the Lau or Windward group of the Fiji Islands. She is owned in America, and was bound for Levnka v.-ith a cargo of JSO.OOO fe-ot of timber. 'J'ho Defender struck the reef on April 10. Within an hour her large boat had been smashed to matchwood, and three of her four boats had gone overboard. 'J'ho crew bached a neighbouring island in the dinghy. News of the vessel's loss came as bqd news to the colony, which is quite out of building timber.
