6 SUGGESTED INCREASE OP FEES. The conference of the New Zealand Dental Association was continued yesIn V paper on "Dental Economics" Mr. R A. Grummitt (Wanganui) gave an interesting and exhaustive analysis of tho expenses of dental establishments, computed from data collected in all parts of Now Zealand. Ho showed that overhead" expenses had more than doubled during the last few years owing to high cost of material, and the fact that tho old system of doing the mechanical work by apprentices had been completely superseded by the employment of nign-ly-paid skilled dental mechanics, the scales of fees charged in various parts of the Dominion were contrasted, showin" a number of anomalies, also that in"most cases tho changed conditions of the profession had not been sufficiently taken into account, A representative committee was formed to consider tho matter, as it was felt that an increase in fees was necessary. Clinical xlemonstratipns were given during the day by Mr. and Mrs. A. Paterson (Christcliurch), R. E. Bridsreman (Auckland), G. W. Wright \Dannovirke), G. L. Taylor (Auckland), and a lantern demonstration on "Facial ReStorutio." by Plaslic Surgery, the last being given bp Captain Marshall on behalf of Lieut.-Colonel Pickerill, head of the special jaw hospital in Dunedin. This lecture described somq remarkable cures of very serious facial injuries an'l disfigurements duo to war wounds. A paper by Mr. O. V. Davits 'Dunedin) o i "The Importance of Ivasal Breathing," was followed by a discussion in which Dr. Harty anil Dr. Wilkins (chief'medical officer of the Education Department) took part. The conference will conclude to-dar.
