HIGH PRICES IN BRITAIN

The Food Controller, speaking <it London, said that before tlio abolitioji of the food control could bB secured difficult periods must be passed. At the present moment the average prices l of foodstuffs in Britain were tit tiro highest point since the outbreak of the war. In consequence the national wage bill had increased in two years five hundred millions sterling. The world's prespectivo wheat crops were causing every Government in .the world tho greatest anxiety. Substantial decreases were re* ported from North America, Australia and .tin Argentine, and the last-named country was considering tho necessity of prohibiting the export of wheat. Only the Indian crop showed a surplus, but it was insufficient to balance tho output from other sources. It was quite possible the people in Britain _ vould have to cat bread of tho quality only procurable during tho most difficult period of the war.
