Tha death occurred at his late residence, Nelson Street, Petone, on Wednesday evening of Mr. Joseph Silva, at the ag9 of 88 years. The late Mr. Silva was a native of the Azores, and after a varied experience at sea he came to Petone 40 years ago, entering tho railway service and remaining there until he retired on superannuation; He is survived by three daughters—Mrs "W. S. Brice and Mrs. _A. Anderson, of Petone, and Mrs. Smith, of Auckland. News Ims been received in Wellington of the death in Sydney of Mr; William Hollidny, who, with his brother, the late Mr. Robert Holliday, carried on for many years business as booksellers and stationers in Lambton Quay. Tho late Mr. Hollida.vjlias left a widow, but no children. Two of his sisters—Mesdanws Lewis and White—aro residents of Wellington. Mr. Ernest Toms, a member of the Treasury staff, has been temporarily ' transferred to the High Commissioner's staff in Loudon, and left by the Tofua to tak.i up his new duties.
