RETURNED SOLDIERS

VOCATIONAL TRAINING. Dunn? the month of April the number of soldier patients in receipt of instruction under the Defence Department's educational and vocational training scheme was 1238, made up as-follow: Auckland district, 470; Wellington dis-' trict 050; Canterbury district, 547; Otago district, 315. In addition to the vocational classes established at the various military hospitals facilities are given to soldier outpatients to study at technical colleges, the university or, if so desires, arrangements can be made for them to receive private tuition. Among the subjects being taught the most popular are general engineering, motor engineering, carpentry, wool-class-ing and general farming. A large percentage of the patients contemplate aeouiring laud alter discharge, and consequently the classes in farming subjects are very strongly supported. Experts from the Department of Agriculture deliver lectures on all branches of this work. These lectures are warmly appreciated by the patients concerned. It is hoped by arrangement with one of the retail business men in one of th 3 city's busy thoroughfares to have a shop window allocated for tho purpose , of displaying for public view the various articles produced by soldier patients iii the vocational class rooms at Trer-tbam.
