The American Press is supporting Mr. Davison's appeal to the United States to give immediate 'help to the stricken, peoples of Eastern Europe—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Kec. May 20, 0.5 a.m.) Washington, May 17. Congress does not seem inclined to vote appropriations to aid Central Europe along the lines Mr. Davison suggested. Members point out that the United States has duties to her own peoples first, and whatever aid America gives should' be donated privately—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [Mr. Henry P. Davison, chairman of the League of Bed Cross Societies, urged the vital necessity for Congress to appropriate SOO million dollars for use in Central and Eastern Europe, and to invito other Powers to follow suit and to co-operate in the feeding of the people.] GRANTS BY BRMSII TREASURY (Rec. It is officially announced that the Treasury has spent since June last on grants to voluntary' societies for relief of the famine-stricken areas of Europe, in connection with a scheme by which the Treasury pays pound for pound voluntarily raised—Aus.-N.Z.
