RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT
.— o DESIRED BY RHODESIA. Cape Town, May 17. The Legislative Council of Rhodesia passed n resolution on May 12 ■ requesting the Imperial Government to establish responsible government in Rhodesia. The Postmnster-Goiiernt voted with the elected members in the majority. The minority was composed of nominated mem-bers.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [The province of Southern Rhodesia (bordered on tho north by the Zambesi) contains about 30,000 white inhabitants and about 800,000 coloured people. It is controlled by an Administrator (Sir Drummond Chaplin), assisted by an Executive Counoil. This body- consists of three or more members appointed by the British South Africa Company. Tho Legislative Council consists of the Administrator as President, six nominees of the company, and twelve members elected by tho registered voters. This Council passes ordinances, which come into force at once, but can be cancelled within the first year by the Secretary of State.! ■
