DIVIDED CHINA
NECESSITY OF IMMEDIATE PEACE. (Rec. May 19, 10.15 p.m.) Peking, May 19. Following repeated offers of tho Northern Government for tho resumption of peace conferences, the Southern Government telegraphed that it would accept the offers provided the North would agree to the abrogation of the 1918 Chino-Japanese military pact. The North replied that the withdrawal of the Allied troops.from Siberia nullified the pact, and pointed out tho necessity qi immediate peace to savo China economically as well as politically—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
