CONDENSED CORRESPONDENCE
The present Defenqe system is condemned by a, correspondent, "Bystander,"' in. a lengthy letter. • He recalls (ilie fact that during the war "efficient" Territorials were, on joining the Expeditionary Force, Put on the same' footing as the raw .recruit, and after less than a week's training one could "ot nick them out. Another complaint is that many youths are allowed to escape service in the Territorials by not registering or by changing their- addresses and disappearing. Our correspondent concludes:—"lf we are to have a military system, and I believe that it is absolutely necessary that we should, we must have.a system that can achieve something in place of the waste,-of-time, ivaste-of-money system now in vogue.", "The Kev. Howard Elliott is devoting some attention to the State school teachers." writes "8.-Bloek Teacher," _ who adds: "I believe the tencibers, in snite of the finicking nature of their work, are not a body of Void women, and will resent any unnecessary outside interference." ; '
