There was a crowded gathering at the Guildhall when Viscount Jellicoe and Viscount French were granted the freedom of tho city, and presented with swords of honour. Many distinguished personages were present. Viscount French, replying to tho address, said tho great lesson of the war wa9 that indecision and vacillation were always disastrous. Ho considered that Germany's cardinal mistake was the failure to seizo the Channel ports. Speaking at a Mansion House luncheon After tho ceremony, Viscount Jellicoe said he anticipated five happy years .in New Zealand, jvhoso people he and his wife had already learned to love. Emphasising the dependence of communications on the British Navy, and the navi«s of the Dominions, Jellicoe uttered a warning against allowing tho strength of the limpire Navy to fade away, until it became tertain that the anti-war measures now being proposed would bo effective.—Aus.-N.Z. .Cable Assn.-Reuter.
