At the annual meeting of Burns, Philp an l Company the chairman stated that the company was ■ preparing to meet the development of the Eastern .trade and the increased requirements urider the new Pacific conditions, including direct services between the larger island group*. It was intended, in order to ovorconii the dislocation caused by the strikes and other disabilities, and to compete with foreign- competition, to form a separate Island Company with headquarters at Fiji, where tl\6 interislani services centre. Everything possible is being done to 'maintain Australian and. British interests against the keen outside competition; Tho chairman explained that ■ tho new Burns, Philp South Sea Company had "aid the par. ent company half a million in scrip, and tin shareholders of tho parent com. pan/ were offered contributing shares in the' new company' at par. equal to one shaie in tho new company to five held in the parent company. _ A feature of the company's merchandise transactions is the big'increase in the New Zealand section.—Press Assff. ,
