MASTERTON COMPETITIONS
By Tclesraph-SDecial CorresDondeut Masterton, May 18. The fourth annual festival of, the Masterton Competitions Society opened today. Mv.'T. Do Spong (Dunedin) judged the elocution, 'and Mr. Arthur Lilly (Christchurch) the vocal and instrumental items. Mr. De Spong expressed himself as pleased with the elocutionary, items generally, the main faults being lack of force ami interpretation. ' Regarding the musical section, Mr. 'Lilly remarked that, in general the performances showed latent 'talents not always expressed.
