LEVY ON WAR WEALTH
COMMITTEE'S REPORT ON SCHEME
EFFECT ON INDUSTRY
By Telograph-Press Association-Copyright London, May 16, , The committee, appointed to consider the practicability of a levy on war Wealth has reported affirmatively. The committee suggests'that the. scheme would be best carried out by the adoption of an Inland Eevenue Board; The scheme is estimated to yield 550 millions sterling, and will affect 75,000 persons. The committee, however, strongly holds that the principle of the levy on capir tal which is involved is unsound, and will harm industry. The opinion in business circles appears to favour the continuance of tho excess profits duty rather than a war levy, as likely to involve less disturbance of industry. ', . . . The Associations of the Chamber of Commerce are strongly protesting against the levy.—Aus. T N'.Z. Cable Assn.
