The Vera Cruz correspondent of the United Press says there are conflicting reports regarding Carranza. It now appears that Carranza is fighting the revolutionists at Hacienda Tamaritz, with SOOO troops. The revolutionists number 14,000. The battle is staged seventy miles south-east of Mexico City. The general news shows a trend towards a revolutionary -victory. A report from Mexico City states that the rebels surrounded Carranza's .train at Apiz.-ico. Three hundred Carran'zistns were killed, and Carranza's life is in danger.—Au6.-N,Z. Cable Assn. Washington, May 13. Reports from Mexico state that when Carranza fled from Mexico City he took twenty-seven million pesos of Govoninient funds; but the rebels claim to have recaptured the money when the trains carrying the President's force were stopped. Carranza's force then made its way down the railway for thirty-five miles before it was held up by rebel troops coming from tho north. The latest reports state that furious fighting is proceeding between forces personally led by Carranza and' the reikis. Heavy rebel reinforcements, including artillery, are being rushed forward. The rebels hope to hold Presidential elections in .Tul.v. Huerta will probably act as Provisional President in the meantime. . The indications suggest that Obregon Will be elected President.—Aus.N.Z. A. report from San Antonio (Texas) states that Carranza escaped through the rebels and his own men by clipping' oft his beard and moustache. May 14,. 10 p.m.) Washington, May 14. . A dispatch from El Paso says that General Obregon, the rebel leader, reports that Carranza has been surrounded for three days and cannot eta nil much longer.
