HAYNE-NEYLON CASE
ADJOURNMENT REFUSED. Tie charge against J;ums ileynolda Haynn and Norman Neylou of unlawfully using an instrument to procure abortion was referred to in the Supreme Court yesterday. Mr. 1\ \f. Jackson (counsel for Neylou) asked'the Court'to' grant, an adjournment to the August sessions. The ground of the application was the unavoidable absence from New Zealand of M". T M. Wilford, who was to have appeared for Hayne. .Mr. Wilford. left Ne>\' Zealand.for San Francisco in March Inst. The Iwat bv which ho was to return sailed earlier than was expected' and Mr. Wilford had to await the Bailing of another beat.. His arrival would bo delayed by a month. Mr. Jackson, submitted that the application was a, reasonable one, as the case had now become rather remarkable. The next occasion on which Wayne app:ared in; the dock would be the fourth 071 wliich he had had to stand his trial. He had already had three (rials, 'Mr MacassCy (Crown Prosecutor): No, two Mv. Jackson: Practically three. His Honour said that the accused had had ample time to brief other counsel. He refused to ' grant' the application, and set the case down for hearing' on Tuesday next.
