A conference of the South Island Potato Growers' Association was Jield in Oamaru to-night, Mr. J. A. Johnston presiding. Several remits. from iho North Canterbury, South Canterbury, and- Waimato associations were endorsed. Consideration vras given to the cable' gram stating that the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth from New Zealand had been prohibited on account of serious. disease. The secretary was instructed to forward a copy of the cable to -the- Minister of Agriculture and Mr. Burnett, M.P., stating that thero wa;s no disease in the crop and asking for an investigation. It was decided that a deputation should wait on tho Prime Minister and Minister, of Agriculture for the purpose of laying before them the present unsatisfactory stato of the potato market
