The Arbitration ■ Court award, covering the employees in .the Auckland Car-* penters, Joinew, Brickmakers, and Operntive Stonemasons' Unions, which it is understood will operate as a .Dominion award, fixes the hours of work at .44 per week. The minimum wage for.journeymen carpenters, joiners, .and joiners' machinists is placed at 2s. per hour, bricklayers and stonemasons 2s. ljil.' per hour. In addition a bonus of 3d. per hour is',to be paid. On all outside jobs the worker responsible for carrying out the work, and who gives instructions to other workers, is to receive not less than Is. a day , extra. For overtime lime and a half is to he paid for the first three hours, and double time thereafter. ' Apprentices in their ■ first year arc granted 15s. a week; second year", 22s'. 6d.; third year, 305.; fourth year, 87s. Gd.r-fifth year, 455. On passing the Technical College examination, apprentices are to be entitled to not less than ss. a week extra during the fourth year. Stonemasons working granite aro to receive 2s. Gd. a day extra. Bricklayers are to be paid time and a.quarter for all hot or, dirty work on chimney stacks, and on towers over 40ft. in height, and standing apart from any building, amTon steeples over 25ft. abpvo the building.. The provisions of the award do not apply to permanent hands /employed by city corporations, ga9 companies, biscuit and confectionery factories, or to the Colonial Sugar Company.
