Alf'the meeting of the West End School Committee at Patoiorston Norththe headmaster reported that thcro was considerable sickness amongst both tho teaching staff and the school children. On that day there had been only 223 pupils present out of a roll number of 319. The highest standards ivere not so much affected as tho lower ones, but in some of the junior clnssas 75 per cent, of the pupils were absent. Tho voting to (ill a vacancy on tho Falmerston North Borough Council resulted M. H, Oram, 660; F. Jackson, 310;-S. Jickell, 275; D. Trow, 21. At tho Supreme Court on Wednesday Robert M'Coukey was found guilty of having assaulted Jack Milligon with intent to do him bodily harm. Satlierly and Anderson wcro found guilty of robbery from tho person. Both accused were remanded ■ for sentence
