At the Supreme Court, Adam Murdoch.', M'Douald, manager of Ormaglado Station, near Kojcbnrgh, was charged with ; _ theft of some thirty sheap from neigh■touring sheep owners. Evidence went to ; show that the earmarks of sheep straying , ■ on to Ormaglade Station had been tarn-, pered with. Tho jury retired at 5 p.m. ; and returned at 10.40 p.m.witn a'verdict of guilty, with a very strong recommen- \ dation to mercy on account of the lax-. ity of the manner in which the earmarking of sheep in the district generally had been carried out in the past, also on ac- [ count of tho uon-observanco of the re-, gulations required by law as to notifyms; neighbouring sheep owners of mustering?,, and also on account of the age of accus-: ed and his character in the past. ilia • Honour Mr. Justice Sim said that m ( view of tho circumstances aud_ tho jury a recommendation ho would be justified in imposing a pecuniary penalty.
