The Hon. W. Noswprthy and the Hod. E. P. Lee, two South Island Ministers in tho Cabinet,' left for tho south last night to be in Cliristchurch when tho Prince of Wales is there. Mr, Leo Is going 01 to Onniaru and Dunedin. Cnptai.n L. Macintosh Ellis, newly-ap-pointed Director of Forestry for New Zealand, and Mr. Turner, Secretary of the Department, are at present in the south engaged in the preliminary work of inspecting the various forest reserves and getting into touch with the peqple most closely interested. They are at present in the Catlins district, and thereafter .will make their way to the Southland forests, and during the return journey visiting tho southern and Central Qtago plantations. Tho death occurred at Onehunga on Thursday of Mr. John Arthur Cramond, in his 91st year. Mr. Cramond was bem in London m the year 1830. As a young man ho emigrated to South Australia, arriving at Adelaido in 1849 in his father's tihip, tho Brightman, commanded by Captain Cowley. 'He was engaged in business there for a number of years. In 1870 he arrived in Auckland, and his homo in New Zealand from then to the time of his death. After being with Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane for a time he entered tho service of the Union Steam Ship Company many years ago, and remained in that employ until 1000, when he retired from active business. He is survived by a widow, three sons, and three daughters, and a number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. One of his grandsons is at present Mnyor of Adelaide. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt has been reekctel president of the Wellington SubProvincial Executive of -'ho New Zealand Farmers' Union, and Mr. J. M. AVhiteman vice-president. Signor 'Alfred P. Truda, tho wellknown fiaute virtuoso, who has resided in Wellington for the past twelve years, will leave by tho Manuka for Sydney today, where ho will join the Oi'sova, sailing for Europe on May 29. Signor Trudi will first go to Milan, where lie will study the latest ideas in voice production under the supreme masters of tho Belcanto School. During his residence here Signor Truda has specialised, ani dedicated himself solely to the school for the flaute. Signor. Truda's experience is a fairly wide one, ho having been through every branch of the profession, from the theatre or-' chestrv to the symphony orchestra, and from pantomime to grand opera. As .'a be of twelve at college he was picked from the class to sing in the juvenile chorus of the operas "Gioconda" and "Profeto Velato." Thes? operas were produced .in the Municipal Theatre at Solerno where Enrico Caruso at that time was the principal tenor.
