Mrs. Acton Adams has returned to Christchurch from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. David Caselberg (Masterton), who has beon spending several weeks in. Christchurch, left early in tho week for . Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. Pearson (Melbourne) are visiting .the West Coast.. ..'_,. Mrs. Hills (Eltkani) is a visitor to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. F. Dyer and Miss Dyer '• are, visiting Christchurch. Mrs. A. W. Young, late of Wellington Terrace, and her two daughters, who . have been spending a holiday in Melbourne for the past eight months, aro returning to Wellington by the Westralia, which is due on Sunday afternoon next. Mrs. J. Hislop presided at tho monthly meeting of tlic Boys' Institute ■ held ■. this week. The matron reported all well ■ except one boy still in hospital. A case of apples from Mrs. M'Kerron and one from Miss M'Whao had been received, also a case of pears from Mr. Yule, of Featherston. Mesdames . Cooper left early in tho week with her father, Mr. Justico Cooper,, for Auckland. " ; In the last list of Birthday Honours appeared tho name of Rear-Admiral Richard Webb, who was captain of • H.M.S. New Zealand before the' war . closed. Ho is now Rcar-Admiral Sir ' Richard Webb, K.C.M.G., C.8., in recognition of his services at. Constantinople, whero he had been Assistant High Commissioner. His . marriage to Miss Agnes Foster, a niece of Lord Denham, took place before the 'end of the war came, and previous to the event Rear-Admiral Webb was presented with a service M \ plate by the mercantile marine of England for his services in the Trade Division of the Admiralty, which he created himself. He was •• mentioned by Lord Jellicoe in his speech at the civic reception in Wellington.' Rear-Admiral Webb gave lectures on the history of New Zealand on board the Hew Zealand when in Scotland. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. H. Bullock, "Penrose," Hopper Street, will regret to know of the death of their daughter, the wife of Mr. H. S. Sivell, "Kestellia," Hankey Street. Mrs. Sivell passed away on Wednesday night after a short illness. She leaves a family of two children. At a meeting of the Headquarters Executive of thi> Women's National Reserve' yesterday afternoon, Mr. Bethune and Mrs. Tripp were elected vice-presidents. Mrs. George Gould and Mrs B. Gould have returned to Christchurch from Auckland and Wellington. Mr. and Mrs.-J. F. Studholme" are returning to New Zealand shortly | from England. Wedding at Baptist Church. The marriago took place on May 5 in 1 the Baptist Church, Vivian Street, of Miss Maggie • Johnston, to Mr. Fred. Hughson, son of Mrs. Hughson and the lato Mr. G. Hughson, of Wall, Shetland Islands. Tho ceremony was performed I by the Rev. W. S. Rollings. Tho bride I wore a gown of white crepe de chine. The bridesmaid was Miss Kate Jeromson. Mr. J. Fraser was best man. The church had becii decorated by the girls of the Brooklyn Baptist Church Bible Class, of which the wide was a member. After the ceremony a rocep- " tion was held at Dustin's, musical items . being contributed by Mesdames Lewis, .- Fanvell, and It. Whitt. The opening night for tho season of tho "Charley's Aunt" Social Club was hell lai the Concert Chamber of the' Town Hall last evening. In spite of bad weather ajid counter-attractions therewas a very good attendance of friends and members, who all thoroughly enjoyed thq excellent programmo placed before them. It'opened with selections from ' "Tho Country Girl" by the orchestra, ■ under the direction of Mr. F. Wolfgang, and a xylophone solo, "Tho Rosewood Polka," with orchestral, accompaniment;. Choruses by thq male members of the. club, including "It is Now. Approaching Winter," "Hello. Auntie," and ' Auntie, Auntie, Auntie," preceded the installa- ,- tion of the new president for the. year,. Mr. Marcus Marks, by Charley's Aunt, . whom the curtain disclosed at of the last chorus. Mr. Marks was solemn-. lv and with due dignity presented with liis insignia of office-a lino black cat (in velvet, decorated with a scarlet bow). Following the close of the first part-of, tho programme Mr. Marks returnedthanks for tho honour that' had been done him, and in the course of his speech stated that for its size Wellington was. remarkable for the number of .its Bohemian clubs. Of "Charley's Aunt Club ; and of the talent which.it possessed ho spoke highly, also mentioning the fact; that five years ago it had begun Ute, with a membership of 30, and now/it; possessed 320, a truly remarkable growth.
