• . — ANNUAL MEETING, lfrom Our Special Correspondent,' Palmerston North, May 10. Tho thirty-fourth / annual meeting of members of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association was held at Palmerston North this afternoon. Mr. H. Akers (president), occupied the ohniv, and there was a small attendance. In movinß the adoption of the, annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman gave a resume of the year's working, and in doing so he referred to the many permanent improvements in the way of buildings which hnd been erected on the show grounds, including the Breeders' Club, a substantial brick building, which was being erected by private subscription, and a portion of which' would be ready tho forthcoming National Dairy Show. The section for Eomnev sheep in natural condition, which had been introduced, at tho last 6pring_show had proved a great success, and -this led to the hope that it would stimulate the younger breeders to exhibit more freely in- the future. Tho dog 6how, which had been in abeyance for several years, had heeu reinstated, and the number of entries received augured well for the future exhibitions. The association, was now in communication with tho Jlew Zealand Motor Garage Proprietors' Association with the view of having a North Island motor exhibition at Palmerston North, which was considered the most suitable centra. All the surplus funds during the year had been dsvoted to permanent improvements, and now there was a possibility of getting the section of land which would complete the showground property, more improvements would have to be made. He congratulated the association upon' having passed through 1 a most successful year. ■ Mr. J. M. Johnston (treasurer), in seconding the motion, went into details os to the finances, and said that financially the association had had the best year since its inception, as, in spite of the amount spent on the grounds and buildings, there was an actual surplus of i"2B, while the assets now stood at £34,000, being i 20,656 over the liabilities. - He pointed out, however, that the National Diiry Show, which always showed a good profit, was carrying the soring show on its back, and something should be done to make the latter a better paying proposition. The total' donations received since 1906 amounted to .£12,808. Tho total members' subscriptions received during the fifteen years had amounted to J319,C5i, while the membership had not improved to any extent since "1806, as the figures now stood at liy, as against 14-15 at the former period.. An association of the standing of theirs should have at least 3000 members if they wished to carry oh successfully. Tho takings at the National Dairy Show had nearly doubled since its inception in 1906, being now ,£BOI7. r.s against £UW> at th 6 former period. Tho total amount recrfved from life members since 1906 was .61183.
