LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

> The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last aight, when there were• present: The Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth), and Councillors W. Knight, W. G. Meldrum, J. Mitchell, W. '■ Tho Town Clerk, Wellington, wrote ■ stating that the City Council hoped to bs in a position to supply adjacent borough councils with electricity, but could not. at present give any idea of the probable coat. ' A reply was received from the Bamo council to tho effect that there wero ho specific licenses issued for motors using the Hutt Hoad and that consequently there could be no credit to the Hir.t Road account from that source. CouL-cillor Mitchell suggested that the Mayor should call on the Wellington Town. Clerk to find out what becarno . of the funds .raised from fines, which had amounted to about .£SO last year. Ho wa« of opinion that some portion '■ of them should be allocated to the upI keep of the road. The Mayor undertook to make the necessary inquiries. A deputation representing tho Potone Municipal Band waited on tho council to explain why they had asked for a grant of .£25 towards their funds. The secretary stated that tho band would give twelve performances during tho year, and would he under tho dual control of the borough councils of Hutt and Petone. It was decided after consideration that as many calls had been made on tho council's funds, the amount should be placed on the estimates for consideration, provided tho concerts are given, and that the band bo known as tho Hutt Valley Band. Tho borough engineer (Mr. E. A. Gumbley) reported that it was his opin. ion that the recent heavy rains showed that a number of the outfall drains should be enlarged, at tho earliest opportunity. Only one small slip had occurred as a result of the downpour.
