At a meeting of tlio Federation of, British Industries a report was presented on the outcome of a joint deputation I with the Association of Chambers of I Commerce to Mr. Austen Chamberlain (Cha/ncellor of the Exchequer), protestMiff'against the 60 per cent, excess proiits tax. The report said . that the , Chancellor was determined to make the greatest inroads possible on the country's indebtedness during . tlio., 'anticipated period of prosperity. ■. .The Chancellor submitted/the following, alternative proposals:—(l) Eetenli»:n. of the.6o per cent, iexcess profits tax;.'(2) .a, flat rate tax of '90x1. in the UII on profits to produce an equal amount ;.'.(3) a levy on war wealth, the last-named to.be. in addition to some levy on excess profits. The meeting, after discussion, referred, the matter to the Federation's Taxation Committee, which later recommended the Federation to consider the point in. view of the unexpectedly high ffafc rate proposed.—lmperial News Service.
