AUCKLAND KESOLUTIONS. By . Teleerapi—Press Association. • ' Auckland, May 1. ■ The Dominion scheme of grading for primary school teachers has been severely criticised of late, especially in Auckland. There some, of the teachers on one occasion invoked the aid of the Supreme Court in remedying what they considered to lie unfair treatment. . The new Minister of Education (Hie Hon. C. .T. Parr) has called a conferenco of senior inspectors, members of the Wel--1 lington Executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute' and representatives ' of male and female teachers throughout , the Dominion, to be held in Wellington i next week for the purpose of discussing : the grading scheme as a whole. A general meeting of members of the ; Auckland branch of the Educational Jni stitnte was held this morning to elect ' five delegates to' represent the teachers S of the Auckland, education district at : the conference, and to give these dele- ■ gates/an idea of the members' views on ; the grading scheme. Jt was resolved to ; endorse the resolution passed at the last ; annual conference of the institute, ex- * pressing the opinion "that the quota sys- * foni is inwjuitn])le 60 lons as deserving I teachers are debarred from , _ showing t their capabilities in higher positions, and t so improving their status." , 'It was also-decided: "That in the opUiI ion of the meeting the allotment of ' marks for 'skill in teaching,' 'porsonalf itv and discipline,' 'organsation . and : management,' and 'school environment - should be abandoned, and 'clheieiicy, ; adopted as the general headiug covcling all these points." , ' * vote was taken on the question whof ther the original, Auckland grading scheme was superior in -design to the ! t present Dominion scheme. The meeting 3 proved-to be unanimously of opinion ' that the Auckland scheme wnssuperior. 5 A resolution was carried affirming that f no amendments to the Education Act or 1 to regulations thereunder should be flu- * ally adopted before all branches of the 1 institute had been given an opportunity 2 of discussing them. It was also res colved: "That, no bonus will be eatisfacI lory to teachers which does not include 1 ali members of the service." i It was unanimously resolved: J hat ; tl, c Department«be urged to "'increase - salaries so as to make thorn equal in 3 purchasing power to those paid on January 1, 1915."
