At a meeting of the Palmorston North Borough Council the question of what traction should bo used" for passeuger traffic again came up for discussion. After considerable discussion it was agreed to obtain an opinion from W. H. The firm of P. Robert anil Co., military embroiderers, wero singled out for honour bv the Prince of Wales when Jio visited I'almcrston North on Tuesday. The firm had embroidered His IJo'val Highness's crest on the travellingrugs which ho is using during the tour of the Dominion. The Prince commanded that Mr. Robert, with the assistants who had carried out the work under his guidance, should be on the railway station upon bis arrival. When the.v were presented to him ho congratulated them * upon tho excellency of their work, and at the samo time gave instructions lor tho embroidering of the Boyal crests on New Zealand-made rugs, which he is presenting to tho King and Queen. For over a year attempts have been made to provide the Mnnawatn district with limo for agricultural purposes from a deposit in the Manewntu Gorge, about twelve miles from t'almerston North. The Government, made arrangements for vesting tho reserve in the four county councils contiguous to it, and at tho same time gave them authority to band the same over to any company which mWit lie'formed by the Farmers' Union to "work. Although tho matter has not been lost sight of up to the present, nothing tangible has eventuated. Yesterday, however, a delegation of farmers was to visit tho spot, with a view to malting themselves acquainted with the' location, in order that they might bring down a" report to a meeting to he held shortly for tho formation of a co-opera-tive company to work the lime which is very much needed in this district. It is understood that the Government Analyst has reported most favourably upon <he deposit for agricultural purposes.
