Charles Hease was found guilty of obtaining ,£IO,OOO and of attempting to obtain and from a woollen merchant by falsely representing that ho had secured a contract 'to purchase from the' Government 15} million yards of surplus cloth. Hease was sentenced to imprisonment for five years. A surprising feature of the trial was the disclosure that Hease, who was on friendly terms with members of Parlia-' ment, repeatedly vised the smoke-rooms, the writing-rooms, and the dining-rooms in the House of Lords and House of Commons for business interviews with other strangers.
