' LABOUR CELEBRATIONS,

A meeting to celebrate May Dny was held,' in the Paramount Theatre last night under Labour auspices . Mr. J. ■Glover presided, and'the speakers were Messrs, P. Fraser, M.P., R.' Semple, and T.' Brindle. The theatre mis about onequarter .full. The resolution submitted by Mr. Brindle fairly covers tho subject, matter of the speeches. They dealt with tho growth of the working-class movement in nil countries, and the ideal of the International Socialists. The resolution ran as follows:—"That this May Day meeting of the Socialists and industrial unionists of ' Wellington reallu-ms its belief "in the identity of interests of the workers of the world, irrespective of race, creed,, or oolourj-'its faith in the final triumph of international workingclass solidarity, and in the coming, e>stablishmnnt of the co-operative" commonwealth. It will- reverence the memory of the men and women who have gone down in the'great fight for working-class einau-. cipation, and those who are to-day enduring privations and imprisonment at the behest of oapitalism.. It sends fraternal greetings to the workers of nil countries, and e-xoresscs its rashness to co-operate with *.hem in tlieir efforts to overcome the reactionary military, spirit that dominates the Capitalist Governments of to-day, and to recwistruct society upon a basis that-.fill ensure for future generations peace, reason, and justice." .' A SOCIAL EVENING. May Day was celebrated by the Wellington Social Democratic Party .holding a social and wunion. at the Alexandra Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. T. Brindle presided over a large assembly. Mr. H. E. Holland was unable to be present owing to illness. Tho president proposed the tonst of ■ "International Socialism,' which was responded tc by Mrs. Stables (Womon's • International League). Mr.-P. Fraser. M.P.. Mr- U. Dyson (Labour Representation Committee), Mr, ArbuckU (Miners' Federation), Mr. J Glover, and Mr 'B. Semple. During the evening a number of wusioal and vocal items were contributed by Miss Read rsong), Miss Cooley (recitation), Mr. Spiro (violin .solo), Mr. J.'Rend (song), Mr. J. Hem,?rsnn (song), and Mr. Simpson (song). Miss Murphy acted as MicpmnanM The evening's proceedings closed' with dancing.
