Kindly references were mnde to the work of Sir James Allen as Defence Minister and the best wishes were expressed for his success in his new sphere.

Lieutenant-Colonel T. E. Gabites, As-sistant-Director of Medical Services for Otago, has resigned, and will be succeeded by Lieutenant-Colonel Bruce, The latter was for a considerable period stationed at the Walton-on-Thames Military Hospital.

Mr. St. Clair Keogli, formerly in the Defence Office, has been appointed clerk to the Gisborne Harbour Hoard.

Sir. Hugh St'Chesney, headmaster of Bluff School, who has been appointed inspector of schools under the Education Department, will begin his new duties in Auckland shortly.
Mr. Joseph I.ythgoe has been appointed to the position of City Llcctrical Engineer nt Christchurch. Sir, Lythgoe will take up his new duties from May 1, the date on which the new general manager (Mr. E. Hitchcock) will take office.
