LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Lower Ilutt Borough Council met last night, the Mayor (Mr. E. P. JJishworth) presiding. Tho Public Works Department wrote enclosing a copy of an Ordcr-in-Council declaring Moiling Street under control of the council. The Department alsp advised the authorisation of a sum of JM3S ss. for the Hall-Jones settlement work.
Respecting a. request from tho Petono 'Municipal Band for an annual subsidy of .£25, tho band undertaking to ,givo twelve concerts in the borough each year if the subsidy were granted, it was resolved to ask tho band executive to moot tho council nt its next meeting.
Tho engineers' fortnightly report showed that for tho month of February 1,93G,000 cubic feet of gas were purchased from Petone. Of this amount 1,693,000 cubic feet wero 6old for domestic purposes, 151,000 for power purposes, and 71,500 cu'bic feet for stroets lighting. TIIO unaccounted for gas amounted to 20,500 cubic feot or 1.05 per cent. Tho figures for the samo month last year were: Purchased from Petone, 1,199,000; used for doinostic purposes, 1,114,000; for power purposes, 88,000; for streets lighting, 07,100. The cause of tho bad gas supply in Katu Street was the subsiding of tho main, but would bo raised at nil estimated cost of £15. Six now gas connections wore granted.
