ST. PETER'S CHURCH
I The annual meeting of the parishion-ers-of. St. Peter's Church was held in the'schoolroom last night. Tho vicar of the parish, Archdeacon Watson, presided, and there was a good attendance. The vicar, reviewing the work of the year, said that the various organisations of tlie parish were holding their own, while some of them wore,' in spite of trying times, making progress. Especially was the mission, •under, the Rev. Fielden Taylor, proving successful beyond expectations. He referred to the change in the character of the population of the parish. Looking back over the old>reports he found that 20 years ago .the church (had been found too-small for the' congregation, and that a proposal was made to enlarge the church. Most of the congregation of those times consisted of families residing in the parish. Very few of these families wero represented here to-day. Their houses were mostly converted into boardinghouses. A great number-of the residents of the parish to-day were people who did not stay for any length of time. He urged that new plans must be adopted to meet the new situation, in order that the church might be maintained as in other years. Tjie vicar referred to t'he death during the year of parishioners, namina «s among those whoso loss would be much felt Mr. Hamilton Gilmer, Mr. Edward Anderson, and Dr. W. Kington Fyffe. Mr. H. F. Allen'submitted the following resolution, which was carried by tho parishioners, upstanding; "That this meeting of parishioners of St. Peter's .Church express thankfulness to Almighty God for the life and services of Dr. William Kington Fyffe. For twenty, one years as organist of St. Peter's ■Church,-, he'upheld t'he, high ideals of Christian worship, and was much beloved by his choir and by many more who know him as a true and generous friend.''
Motions of recognition of tho services to the parish of Mr. Edward Anderson, for thirty years a cliurcliwarden, and of Mr. Hamilton Gilmer, for many years a parishioner, were also passed. The churchwardens selected were Captain X. H. Chudley (vicar's warden), and Mr. David Anderson (people's warden), both reappointed. The election of vestry was as follows Messrs. Barnicoat, W. Bctlunie, W. Atkinson, T. W. Richards, Robinson, H. F. Allen, Hamilton P. Palmer, Q. Laurence,- and R. Wilborfoss. Reports of other orßanisations within tlie ijnrish, including tho Taranaki Street Mission, were presented and adopted, Tho report'of the mission showed that the total income of the mission froiii offertories, jumble sales, sales of work, aiid other sources, • was ,£llOl in nino months. The mission began operations with an overdraft of £150, and had ended the year with an overdraft of ,£BO, having in ths meantime paid £125 for purchaso of proporty. Congratulations were offered to the Rev. Fieiden Baylor and Ms helpers on tho success of tho mission. _ W ;
