CHURCH MEETING

ST. ALBANY EASTBOUIiNB. Tiho ninth, annual meeting-- of parishioners of St. Albans Church, Eastbourne, was held on Monday evening. The llev. 0 M. Stent, vicar, occupied the chair, and there were about 30 parishioners present. The vicar read his report for tlio past year, dealing with the various activities in the parish, and congratulated the parishioners on the good work , accomplished.. The report of the churchwardens and vestry, together with tho ■ balance-sheet, were adopted.' 'Ihe statement showed that.there was a slight decrease in both t.lie general and special oifertories, tho latter beiug accounted tor owing to ho services now being' held at I,lio Tauiiuiru Homo at Lowry Bay. 'ills stipend fund subscriptions showed a drop of nearly £M,\which was much regretted, and'a. special appeal was made that this fund he kept up, so as to realise at least ,£l5O per annum, in order that the services of a resident clergyman could 1)0 retained. The debt on tho church remains at .£285, as special efforts wera made to raise funds to purchase a vicarnge. This was dona by means of donations and bank overdraft, and it is the intention of the Indies' Guild to assist the Trust Board in reducing their liability on the property. Several gilts wero made to tho church during tuc past yfenrf including ft handsome festal nltur cloth, hangings and antepon'dia by Mr. and Mrs. Knox Gilmer, while the la- , dies' Guild donated n, faldstool, and Mr. Pilcher a .'new sanctuary 'ihnir. Tlio thanks of the vestry were conveyed to these donors. Mention was mado of tlio franchise to women, and jt was hoped that the ladies' of the palish would aval! themselves of the same. • ■ The following officers were electcd: — Vicar's, warden, Mr. T. W. Fileher; parishioners' warden. Mr. J. D. Avery try: Messrs. T. Bellinger, E. H. Anderson, C. A. Baker, C. W. Buad, C. T. Howe, 11. J. Poole, S. R. Wright, N. Bennington. A. Watters, and Bell; auditor, Mr. T. W. P. Marsden (re-elected). Special reference was made to tho splendid work of Mr. Thomas Ballinger, who has been vicars warden for somo years, but did not seek re-election owiiw to ill-heaHh, and a -hearty vote of thanks was accorded to hini.
