A proposal to form a. farmers' cooperative society to erect freezing works, for South Canterbury is veil -in hand. A prospectus will be. issued at an early date. Tho Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 20, from tho High Commissioner for . New. Zealand, Loudon:—"Twelfth series Government wool sales oommenced yesterday, with fair attendance buyers and moderate competition. On this occasion large proportion offering consists of New Zealand crossbreds. Compared with last closing rates, merinos 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, cheaper; crosßbrcds, fine, par ts 10 per cent, cheaper; medium and coarse, 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, cheaper, according to condition; 150,000 bales shown woolb available for series, of which. 61,000 are New Zealand;, also 43,000 New Zealand on description."' Tho annual report of the Wellington Deposit, Mortgage, and Building Association, Limited, states i-The net profit on tho year's business is £1762 11b. 2d., which added to '£347 Is. 9d brought forward from last year, mak.& a total of £2109 12b Ud Tho directors recommend that this sum be applied as follows :-The payment of a dividend for the year at the rate of 6 per centum per annum, which will absorb £I£CO, a sum of £200 to bo placed to tbo reserve account (which will then stand at £3000), and the balance, £409 12s lid., to be carried forward to rext year's account. During the year a further sum of £500 was subscribed, to the New Zealand War Loan. Two directors, Messrs. O. Smith and W. Watson retire, and, being eligible, offer themselves for roelection.
