' THE VISIT TO AUSTRALIA NOT BEFORE JULY. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union met last evening, thoso present being Messrs. : 6. W. Slade (in the chair), A. C. Kitto, R. T. Bailey, G. Howe, W. W. Cooke, and G. H. Mason. j Correspondence was read from the New r South Wales Union regarding the proposeel visit of the New Zealand representative team, in which it was suggested j that the team should arrive in time to , play the first match on Thursday, Juno J 10. Other matches had been fixed for June 12, IG, and 19. Mention was made of the fact that the English League team • would also be playing during the period of the New Zealand visit. "Tho opinion was expressed that it would not. do to | have the visiting League team playing on tho same day as the Rugby match, ■ New Zcnland v. Australia. It would ' Im> better, delegates held, if. the trip of ; the New Zealand team was postponed till July; Talking generally, it was • thought it would.ho a rush order to got a team'away in time for June; ncvertheloss.' it was considered desirable to send a team over as soon as possible to give the game a fillip in Australia. The. chairman mentioned that the Queensland Union had gone, practically nil Rugby players, having gone over to League. As a result' the New Zealand Union would have to wine off a sum ot between ,£3OO and 'JSJOO, which the Queensland Union owed. The expense ot sending the team would bo grea't, espe- ., cially when only three 'matches we're to ibe played. Fares alone would cost, at least .£4OO, and with Queensland out it would not be advisable to come to a hurried decision. On the 'motion of Mr. Howe, seconded by Mr, Bailey, it was decided to inform the New South Wales Union by cable that it would not be practicable to send a team before the middle of July. Other Business, . The Otago Union nominated Messrs. - C. Morris and J. D. King as members of the Appeal Committee, and the apwere duly confirmed. The AVellington Union forwarded a re-, commendation for the reinstatement of J. Ashton. of Petope.
