The parties cited, who were not of the Master Printers' Association, and the Canterbury Newspaper Proprietors' Association, wore struck out. ■ The demands for . linotype operators,, were discussed at length, but no. agree-' ment was reached. Tho union t'sk'ed. £6' 10s. a iweek for day operators and .£7 lfls.; for night operators. The employers offered ,£5, but intimated that they might go to £5 ss. A further offer was made in committee which the union was unable to accept. . The demands affecting bookbinders and machinists were'referred to the Court.
In case the parties should arrive at an agreement privately, the Commissioner said he .wculd keep- the matter open till May 8, then, failing receipt of word from the parties, he would send the dispute on to the Court, with no recommendation. . '
