Between noon yesterday and noon to-day, 120 fresh notifications from the wholo of the C'aiiterbury-AYestlaml district were received by tho Health Department. The new eases are made up as follows: North Canterbury, 102; South Canterbury, 10; Asliburtou, 2. Of the 102 cases reported- in North Canterbury, 99 are in Christchurch, and of these tV.ree are pneumonic. Two fresh pneumonic cases are reported from South Canterbury. All (he city schools will close to-mor-row for at least a fortnight. Dr. Chcsson (who is now acting as District Health Officer for Canterbury, in conjunction with Dr. Telford) tolil a reporter that owing to tho number of school children affected by the present outbreak of influenza it had been deemed advisable to close the remainder of the schools within an eight-mile radius of Cathedral Square. At the same time arrangements were beingmade for tho exclusion of children of school age from picture theatres. "There is 110 cause for alarm in the present position in Christchurch," continued Dr. Chesson, "though tho cases are of a. moderately sharp type."
