ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS

A meeting of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society was held last night, when Mr. H. 1). Edwards, vicepresident, occupied the chairjhi tho unavoidable absence of tho president, Mr. E. W. Hunt.

The chairman intimated that the publio speaking competition would bo held in June, and expressed tho hope that the usual high standard would be maintained this year. The principal business oi the evening was a Iccturc by Mr. H. H. Cornish, M.A., LL.M., on the subject "The General Principles Governing Mercantile taw." The lecturer dealt with the legal aspect of all important, commercial transactions with narticulur attention 'to business contracts. He cited the leading cases in English law to support the principles ho enunciated, and gave many important instances where tho decided New Zealand eases differed from English law. Mr. Cornish gave a very lucid explanation of tho various questions asked him at the conclusion of tho lecture, and was accorded a hearty' voto of thnnks for his interesting lecture.
