MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. • • The moiithlv meeting of the Viotoria College Council was held last night. Mr. Clement Watson presided, and there were present: Sir Robert Stout, Profe.ss&ra Hunter and Somervillo. Messrs. 0. Smith, P. Levi, E. K. J.om««. T. Forsyth. F. N. Bntowell, R. A. Wright and C. H. Tayloh • . . ■ . ■ , An invitfition to tho colic?© to be represented at the Pan-Pao flo , Science' Congress, to be held at Honolulu, on August 2,-1920, was referred to thfe Professorial Board for consideration. Mr. Forsyth moved-on behalf of Mr. R. M'Callum a resolution congratulating the University of Otago on the celebration of its jubilee, and expressing wilisfriction with tlie work of the Pioneer settlers of Otac° for education.—* The motion was carried. ' . Mr. 15. K. Lomas moved the following resolutions, which wero deftlt with as under: . , That the time has come at whioh it is desirable to'reconstruct the policy of the council re the status and appointment of assistants to professors.— Carried. That as a beginning in this reconstruction an assistant be appointed to each of the professors in chemistl'?, biolocy and phvsic.s. sufficiently w<>ll qualified to assist the professor in the teaching work of the university; ;nd that this be referred to Finance Committee for renort.—Carried. That the salary suggested be at least X-100 a yf-ar.—Carried. If finance permits, the same policy be intrcduced w : th regard to other professors' assistants.—Carried. ,
