ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the St, John Ambulance Association was held in tho Council Chamber, Town Hall, last livening. His Worship the Jiavor (Mr. J. P. Luke. C.M.G.) presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet (previously published) were read and adopted. • Mr, Lukp paid n high H'aifo io llio work of the organisation, and in rcfeirlng to tho work of the Red.Cross So-' ciety stated that'll? understand that there was a desire in some quarters ..to see the two bodies combin". However, on that point h'e had nothing to say, oilier limn that both institutions were very worthy organisations. During the war St. John Ambulance had done jrrpat work in tending the wounded, and, there were many who had been succoured by the organisation, who must feci that their present good health was due to Iho brigade. It was very necessary that the association should hi|ve n home in the city. In speaking generally nf the work ,of the association and tt>e Red Cross Society, His Worship said that much of the success of the Mesopotamia campaign was due to the effort? of .those organisations, who performed heroic, work in succouring- tho wounded and the sick. The sneaker also paid a .high comnliment to the work of the. local nolice force, who. he said, had performed great' work in contributing towards the minimising of street accidents and helpin? those who needed help. (Hear, hear.) The railwaymen were also worthy of much praise. Tc al=n pnid a tribute to the work of Mrs. H. W. Preston and her staff for their work duriwr the war at the Star Begins Club's shed. • The secretary (Mr, J. B.
