FIRES IN CITY
- TWO MINOR OUTBREAKS. Shortly before noon yesterday the fire brigade was called to 27 Bidwill Street to a house owned and occupied by Herbert Helming. The outbreak was caused by a blow-lamp used in removing paint from the dwelling. The building was insured in the Phoenix office. The contents were insured in the New Zealand Insurance office for £200. The fire was suppressed before much damage was done. At 7.10 p.m. on Saturday a motor-car caught fire in Ellice Street. The car, which was owned by Mr. William Fuller, was accidentally set alight when the owner was engaged in filling the petrol tank, by the light of a hurricane lamp. The fire brigade was summoned, but the car, which was insured in the Victoria office for £210, was badly damaged.
