POULTRY NOTES
EGG-LAYING _CLOSE OF COMPETITION. Tho results of the fifteenth egg-laying competition, conducted at Papanui by tho New Zealand Utility Poultry Club, compare very favourably with' the results of past competitions. ■ In tho 515 weeks, tho <83 fowls engaged (461 millets and 27 hens) laid 97,533 eggs. In the previous competition, 492 fowlß laid 97,451 eggs. The 24 light-breed Eingle pen birds returned an averago of 233 eggs. The two leaders in the • heavy-breed single-pen contest averagod 247 eegß. The winner of the lightbreed singlo-pen test (Mr. Traccv King, of Riverton. Southland) .won his place through a White Leghorn bird, which has now laid 515 standard-weight eggs in a >ear and 51 weeks—a world's record, in public competition, for a light-breed fowl, Mr. J. Liggins, of Burwood, gained, for tho second year in succcssion. the distinction of winning the Leghorn Challenge Shield arid Studholmo Diploma and Gold Medal for best all-round team in the light and heavy-breed teams'. : Tlie following are the final results:— ' LIGHT BREEDS Single Birds Contest.
