NOTES AND COMMENTS

(By Glencoe.)

Acceptance for the first day's events at the Wellington Autumn Meeting close with Secretary A. K Whyte at 9 p.m. to-morrow.

Oil Monday evening acceptances' aro due for the Man.rvatu Auaimn Meeting.

Trainer J. 11. JelYerd. with Chrysostum and Caricature, J. Ayres with Battln Song, and ,T. Gravestock with Chimera and Little River, returned by yesterday morning's ferry steamer Mr. C. Parker, of Gisborne, was present ftt the Hiccarton meeting on the look-out for a suitable horse for the Poverty Bay district. He endeavoured to purchase. Melee, but was outbid, but privately he secured Acquittal from tlie Chokebore stables.

After racing at Riccarton, p'light Commander was sold t<> a Wellington lawyer. The Martian gelding is to go into tlis stables presided over by H. A, Tcll'o:d at Trent ham.

There is a lot of interest in Hie probable meeting of Sasanof and Amythas in the Trentham Gold Cup. The threo-ycar-old got through his Hiecarton engagement without mishap, but there are doubts alwut the soundness of Sasanof, and nothing, will be known for some days as to whether the Martian gelding will lie fit to race. Contradictory reports are in circulation as to bow he pulled up at lliccarton, but, as stated before, nothing will be known until the arrival of the horse to-morrow.

The untimely death of Mr. W. P. Archibald through a motor accident will be received with general regret. The deceased was for many years manager of the Knraimt Station, 'but on the death of the late Hon. J. D. Oriuond lie took up farming pursuits mi his own account in the Waipawa district. The late Mr. Archibald was a keen student of breeding of all sorts, and, in addition to possessing a knowledge of raeehorso blood stock, he was also an authority on sheep and cattle, and acted as judgo i\i Hie dili'nvent A. and P. Shows.

Mr. ,T. Flanagan, of Adelaide, is contemplating a trip to the next New, Zealand Cup' meeting. If he conies across the useful Pistolaric will be one of tlio team.

Khartum struck himself while working on the eve of the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting, which accounts for his being allowed to-forfeit his engagements in tin; Brighton Hurdle,? and Autumn Steeplechase.

Tt is not generally known, saw "Whalebone," that Mr. Kemball sent an offer to Australia for Millieme, which scored the sensational victory over Arlileryman in the St. Leger at. Randwiek on Satur day, but it is hardly likely that the offer will be accepted now.
