N.Z. RIFLE CHAMPION

COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL, The Military Club tendered a complimentary social to Rifleman H. V. Croxton. of the Karori Rifle Club, at Dustin's Rooms, Cuba Street, last evening, Rifleman Croxton won the New Zealand Rifle Championship at the recent meeting at Trentham. Mr. n. Marshall, president of the Karori Rifle Club, presided, and had the guest of the evening on his right, and General Richardson on his left. Colonel R. J. Collins, the chief executive officer of the Dominion Rifle Association, was also present. After the loyal toast had been honoured. Mr. G. Hnlliday, who was the champion about ten years ago, proposed tho toast of the New Zealand Rifie Champion (Rifleman Croxton). He stated that the members of the club had always found Rifleman Croxton a good shot, and a good fellow. This was the second occasion oil which Karori provided the champion. In 1010 he (the sneaker) had the honour of being the champion, so that in 1930 Karori ought again to provide the winner. Continuing, Mr. Halliday said that Rifleman Croxton had, since joining the club, shown consistent improvement 'in his 'shooting, and his win at Trentham was a popular one. It was now Mr. Croxton'a duty to go Home and secure the King's Prize at Bislev. New Zealand had already provided a winner in Sergeant Loveday for that coveted prize, and lie thought Rifleman Croxton should mako an effort to bring the honour to the Dominion for the second time. The champion suitably responded, and paid compliments to those who wore close up to tho chamnion at the Trentham meeting, lie was also gratified that the champion of champions. Mr. Arthur Ballinger, was present lhat evening. Other toasts honoured were "Supporters of Rifle Shooting." proposed by Mr. H. Oakley Browne; i "The Press." and "The Ladies." Songs and recitations by members of the Karori Club and others bellied to make the evening pleasant.
