MAGISTRATE'S COURT

. * Mr. P. L. Hollings, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court held oA Saturday morning. ' A youth' named Edward''Divver. was, charged under the War Regulations with being on board the s.s. Wailienio without permission of the milibw n-thirities or the owners, master or agent of the vessel. Sub-Inspector Emerson stated that when the vessel Was searched by the police prior to her departure for Sydney vim accused was found slowed away. When asked- what, he was doing on the vessel he stated that he had received bad r.ews from England and'as he had no money he had stowed away and hoped to get * passage, from Sydne- to England. The accused, who. was 19 years of age, had been, a steward on a vssel. Sub-In-spsctor Emerson said there was no reason to doubt the lad's statement. Accused was fined .£2 in default three days' imprisonment. Percy M'Leod was charged with using threatening liehar'oiir in Adelaide fload, and also with resisting Constable Crowther while in the execution of his duty. The accused and another man were fighting in the street when the constable arrived and effected arrests. The constable was struck several blows, and two others'vero concerned in the assault. On the, first charge accused was fined ,£5 in default M days' imprisonment, and for '•esisting the constable be was fined £10, ia the alternative one month's imprisonment. James Baldwin, charged with obstructing Con.«tab:e Crowther. and John Svdney Guilford, who was charged with assaulting Constable Crowther, were remawled to April 9 on bail. ■ A remand for a week was granted in the case of Ernest Dawes, charged with ii'deeent assault on a girl. John M'Dnv'id' and Charles lialu., who were convicted of their second offences fo- Insobriety; were each fined 20s. William lewis Allen was charged with failing to comply with roaintenanc« orders for the support of his wife and children, the arrears totalling .£3 in one case and .£3 'Is. in another. He was convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for 14 days to enable him to pay th* arrears, and he wds ordered to find security for .£.io for the future observance of the orders. Ernest Herbert Wilmot, charged with having indecently exposed himself on March 2!) was remanded on bail to appear on April 7.
