The witness declared that the methods by which Caillanx had obtained the money were above suspicion. .' Another witness stated that Lipscher had been offered thirty thousand francs by tho French police to eive false ovidenco. Deputy Dutreil recalled Caillaux's private statement in October, 1917, when he expressed the opinion that France was ruined and an early ponce desirable on the'following terms:—The restoration of Alsace-Lorraine; the provision of a, reparations .common fund to which nil the belligerents would contribute, the defeated nations contributing the largest share; the return of the German colonies, as it was not'.France's but England's interest to keep German territories /for the purpose of conducting an economic war after the war.
