"• - ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The annual conference of the Churches of Christ opened in Vivian Street Church with a men's banquet and public meeting presided over by Mr. 1;'. W. Oreemvood, of Auckland. Addressee we-ie givon bv llr. Ira A. Paternoster on "The Churchand .Evangelism," and by .Mi. Ralph Gebbie, 8.A., on "The Churoh rind Missions." The meeting was largely attended. On Thursday afternoon the Women's Conference opened in Newtown Church. It was presided over'by Mrs. Patching. The report stated that funds raised included >£56 Ito. for homo missions and JG2O - 15s. for foreign missions. This was for special work. Encouraging reports were presented by all societies. Officers elected for the ensuing year included the following:—President, Mrs. Patching; vice : presidents, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Ira A, Paternoster; secretary, Mrs. Viekery; treasurer, Mrs.. Muvgatroyd. The evening meeting was very large. Three papers were read—ono on "Woman's Services in the Church," by Mrs. Dick (Auckland), another on "Tho Price of Service," by Mrs Ashby (Potono), and a third/on "Our Opportunity," by Mrs. Ira A. Paternoster. It was decided to make n special effort to raise <£100 during the coining year. Miss Shakes end Miss Hall provided special music during the evening. The general business of conference opened on Friday morning at Newtown, and was presided over by Mr. E. J. Dick. Fifty-two delegates responded to the rollenli. The president spoke of the progress made during -the year. Over ICO additions wore reported for the year. The membership of the North Island and Nelson district now numbered 1878, with over 2000 scholars and 200 teachers. Over .£ISOO was raised for homo missions, and about .£IOOO for foreign missions. A new building had been erected at Gisborne, and a strong church organised. - The officers elected for tho coming year are: President, Mr. Milton Viekery; vicepresident, Mr. 11. Long; secretary, Mr. 11. Amer; treasurer, Mr. G. Day; committee, Messrs. D. Cairns, Clarke, and -Campbell. A feature of tho afternoon session was the addresses of the home mission preachers mion woi'k in the_ various fields. An appeal for funds realised nearly ,£2OO iu cosh, and promises for home missions.
