— 4 THE KING'S DISMISSAL OF THE CABINET SOCIALISTS' ULTIMATUM _ GENERAL STRIKE DECLARED (By Telegraph-Prcsß Association-Copyrlitht \ Copenhagen, Marjk 30. The King dismissed the Cabinet, al-. leging that it .does not possess the people's'confidence, in regard to the Slesvlg policy. Mr. Zahle, the Premier, maintained that ■ the • Cabinet possessed' the confidence of the Chamber, and said the demand for an election lvas only raised outside Parliament. The King insisted on the resignation of the Ministry. Mr. Zahle replied that lie could not resign, as the Chamber had not expressed its distrust, whereupon the King dismissed the Cabinet. He asked Mr. Zahle to remain until a new Cabinet was. formed, but M>.'Zahle_ refused, saying that those who had advised the King to dismiss the Cabinet must bo ready to take over the Government. The:_democratic newspapers stigmatise the King's actionros a coup d'etat. Mr. Liebe,, a lawyer, has undertaken to form? a'new Cabinet, with the Danish Minister in London, Mr. Castenkiold, as Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Socialists have sent an ultimatum to tho King stating, that, unless constitutional government is restored before 9 o'clock this morning, they will proclaim a general strike. • ■ ' Troops gunrded the Castle during the night. A crowd greeted the soldiers with cries of "Long Live the Republic." The King has refused to comply with the Socialist ultimatum—Aiis.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SOCIAL DEMOCRATS ADVOCATE REPUBLIC Copenhagen, March 31. The Labour leaders will advocate a general strike to the Trade Union Congress on Wednesday. . The streets are quiet, but there is intense anxiety among all classes. The railway and. postal employees say they will take part in the strike. The Social. The trade unionists meet to-day to consider a general strike.
