HIDE AND SKIN SALES
Tho fortnightly sales ot hides and skins were held yesterday, by the various brokers. j Messrs. Levin and Co. report that prices of all descriptions of liideß and calfskins wero etoady. As compared with last saleß rates heavyweight hides -and calfskins were slightly in sellers' favour, whilst lightweights were rather easier. The tallow market was firm at a slight dcclino as compared with last sale prices. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co.. Ltd., submitted a large and representative catalogue of 1900 hides to a good attendance of buyers. Prices for heavy and medium j ox showed an advance of Id. per lb., light ox selling on a par with last sale. | Cows, on the average, were inclined to i ease slightly, excepting in specially well | conditioned . lines, which occasionally i reached .last eale'B level. Yearling and i kip were rather erratic, but calfskins ! quite sustained thot recent level of values, rising to higher prices in superior lines. - Tallow was considerably easier, showing a dcclno of from £5 to £4 jicr ton. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company, Ltd., report that there was again a keen market, and prices generally ruled well above those obtained a fortnight ago for almost every description of hide offered. There wa3 an exceptionally good demand for 'ox hides and calfskins, while cow. kips, and yearlings were also keenly competed for. Tho tallow market still rules, firm, and good priccß were realised for best tin tallow and casks. The range of prices was as follows;— Hides, ox, sound, 701b. and over, 263 d. to' 28d.; oy, sound, 591b. to 691b., 26Jd. to 2<lid.; ox.-Bound. 531b. to 581b., 28d. to 27Jd,; ox, Bound, 451b. to 521b., 213 d. to 25Jd.; ox, Bound,- 331b. to 441b., 21jid. to 24J<1.; ox, cut and slippy, all grades, 19Jd. to 26! d.; cow, sound, 451b. and over, 23d. to 27Jd.; cow, sound, 331b. to 4411)., 20(1. to 23Jd.; cow, cut and slippy, all grades, 13d. to 24d.; yearling and kip, Bound. 111b. to 161b., 2L!d. to 35!id.j yearling and kip. Bound, 171b. to 321b., 19d. to 29d.; yearling and kip, cut and slippy, all grades, 10Jd. to 33d.; calf, sound, first Quality, under 61b., 48id. to 59d.; calf, sound, 61b. to 81b., 46>,d. to 57Jd.; calf, sound, 91b. to 101b., 4Jd. to 48d.; calf, cut and slippy, 18d. to ,46d. bull, stag, 16d. to 19d.; horse, 16s. to 40s. Tallow, in casks, 64b. to 80s.; in tins, etc., ' 475. to 68s. 6d.
