STATE FORESTS
.BIG RESERVATIONS DECLARED.
Proclamatioas issued in the G/izette last night .declare that certain -.lands have been set apart as provisional State forests. The areas mentioned are portions of Crown land in Auckland, Tarnwtki, Hawke's Bay, 'Nelson, Marlbor<>ijgh, AVestland and Southland, "he 'total area is in tlio neighbourhood of 11,500,000 acre?. These areas,-which arc under bush at tlio present-time, are to .be held as forest reserves pending-tjto reports of the Chierf Forestry Officer -.and .his assistants, -who will recommend the measures to be taken by -tlio Forestry Department. Some targe blocks aTe included. One Southland blotk iB estimated at 91,000 acres, ;nnd the Nelson areas include 'bleaks of IOfi.OOO .ncros, GG,(I(H). acres, : aud jSJ,OOO acres. ,T!w blocks reserved arc of : all-sizes, ..some of .them beinsr under 100 acres.
